Launch the media gallery 1 player - media #3This year five 8th grade students drew a portrait for the organization "Memory Project" (www.memoryproject.org): Raleigh Shipley, Nolan O'Brien, Bryn Kadel, Kenzie Bohling, and Mikenzie Andersen. The Memory project is a nonprofit organization takes photographs of children in need in other countries, and pairs them with artists who draw the portraits and return them to the child, "...to help the children feel valued and important, to know that many people care about their well-being, and to act as meaningful pieces of personal history in the future." This year Shickley 8th graders learned about the challenges facing our child, "Lena" from the Ukraine. Her favorite color, blue, was added to most of the artworks, which were mailed this week. These students are looking forward to seeing her reaction to receiving the portraits in a video that will be sent back to us later this spring. This project was a wonderful way for students to end their unit in portrait drawing, and to show global kindness. According to the website, since 2004, more than 90,000 portraits have been created and shared in 42 countries.
